AI consultant in Cheshire

Published · Updated

Optimus Consulting is an AI consultancy based in Crewe, South Cheshire, working with service businesses across the UK. I am Chris Latham. I spent 25 years in motor claims and insurance operations before doing this, and I completed the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme at Saïd Business School in 2025.

The short version of how I work: fix the process first, apply the technology second. That order is not a preference, it is the reason engagements here tend to be shorter and cheaper than people expect.

Do you actually work with businesses in Cheshire?

Yes, and I would rather show you than say it.

Two of the sites we have built this year are for Cheshire businesses, one in Crewe and one in Nantwich.

The Broking Group is a private healthcare broker advising businesses and individuals across several product lines. We rebuilt their site around each audience and the questions they ask before picking up the phone, with answer engine optimisation and structured data built in from the first page. It went live on 12 August 2026 with a visibility baseline measured on day one.

Jam Risk Solutions is an independent claims advisory practice serving insurers, brokers, supply chain partners and investors. Their site is built around the questions their buyers actually ask, with dedicated service pages, a "before we talk" FAQ section and a standalone section for their Health Check 360 product.

Both sites carry a "Website by Optimus Consulting" credit, so you can go and look rather than take my word for it.

What does being local actually get me?

Someone who will come and sit with your team, and who is an hour away rather than a video call away.

I am honest that most of this work does not strictly require proximity. Plenty of it happens perfectly well remotely, and I work with businesses all over the UK. But the part that does benefit is the assessment, where I need a few hours with the people who actually run the process rather than the people who describe it in meetings. That is easier and better done in a room.

If you want a consultant who has never met your team, there are cheaper options than me and I would not pretend otherwise.

What do you actually do?

Three things, all priced openly.

AI Visibility Audits, £995. A measured test of whether AI answer engines name and cite your business when buyers ask the questions that lead to a sale. Four engines, real buyer queries, full evidence showing who got recommended instead of you. Delivered in five working days.

The 3 Step AI Audit, £1,250 per day. Mapping a process properly, end to end, and working out where AI would genuinely pay back and where it would not.

Website builds, from £2,000, then priced on scope. Sites built to be readable by AI answer engines from the first page rather than retrofitted afterwards.

Every price is on the services and pricing page. Larger engagements are quoted as a fixed amount in writing before you commit. I do not work on open-ended day rates that drift.

Why should I believe any of this?

Because I publish my own numbers, including the bad ones.

We measure our own AI visibility on the same methodology we sell, and put the results on the site. As of 7 September 2026, across 8,321 measured answers, we appear in about 10 per cent of shortlist answers and under 1 per cent of problem answers. The second number is poor and it is published anyway, because a consultancy that only shows you its good figures is showing you the end of a story.

You can see the current version on the AI Visibility Audit page.

What sectors do you work in?

Insurance broking, motor claims, customer service operations and law firms, mostly.

That is not a list of everyone I would take on, it is where 25 years of operational background actually counts for something. In those sectors I know what a process map is hiding, because I have run the teams. Outside them I am a competent generalist, and there are specialists who would serve you better.

There are sector pages for insurance brokers, motor claims, customer service and law firms if one of those is you.

When would you tell me not to bother?

Regularly, and it is worth knowing that up front.

If your bottleneck is a people problem or a demand problem, AI will not fix it. If your processes are about to change, automating the current ones wastes the money. If most of your work comes through referral and you are not trying to grow past that, visibility work is a low priority whatever anyone tells you.

A fair proportion of my discovery calls end with me saying not yet. That costs me a fee and saves you considerably more.

How do we start?

A free 45-minute discovery call, and there is no pitch at the end of it.

We spend the time on one process of yours, not on my services. You leave with that process mapped, a straight answer on whether AI would help it and where, and a next step you could act on yourself without hiring anybody.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you based?

Crewe, in South Cheshire. I work with businesses across the UK and travel for assessment work.

Do I have to be in Cheshire to work with you?

No. Most of the work happens remotely. Being nearby helps for the on-site assessment stage, which is the part that benefits from being in a room.

What does an AI consultant actually do?

Maps how your work really flows, identifies which parts are repetitive and rules-based enough to automate, and tells you honestly where the payback is. There is a fuller answer at /aeo/what-does-an-ai-consultant-do/.

How much does it cost?

The AI Visibility Audit is £995, delivered in five working days. The 3 Step AI Audit is £1,250 per day. Website builds start at £2,000. Everything else is quoted as a fixed price in writing before you commit.

Do you resell the software you recommend?

No. I take no commission from any vendor, so when I say a tool is wrong for you there is nothing in it for me.

How quickly can we speak?

Usually within the same week.
